How to get to Lleida

By plane

The two main international airports, Barcelona-El Prat and Madrid-Barajas, are located in cities with good connections to Lleida-Pirineus station by High Speed Train (AVE) and other fast trains (AVANT, Alvia or AVLO). It takes approximately one hour from Barcelona-Sants station and just over two hours from Madrid-Puerta de Atocha station.

From Barcelona-El Prat airport

Take the R2 Nord line (Airport – Sant Celoni/Maçanet Massanes train from the airport train station located in Terminal 2 to go directly to Barcelona-Sants station. There are trains every 30 min (from 5h40 to 23h38).

The R2 line, which connects Terminal T2 with Sant Celoni / Maçanet Massanes, stops at: Airport – El Prat de Llobregat – Bellvitge – Barcelona-Sants Station. The trip takes 19 minutes.

As the airport train station is located outside Terminal T2, there is a free shuttle bus service running 24 hours a day to transfer from Terminal T1 to T2. You can also take the Aerobus to Plaça d’Espanya, then take the metro L3 towards Zona Universitaria and get off at Estació Sants.

Once at Barcelona-Sants station, take a High Speed Train to Lleida-Pirineus station (see “by train” section for more details).

From Madrid-Barajas airport

The airport is connected to Madrid-Puerta de Atocha station by several line transfers as shown below:

  1. Pink Line (Number 8) from Barajas to Nuevos Ministerios.
  2. Gray Line (Number 6) from Nuevos Ministerios to Pacífico.
  3. Celeste Line (Number 1) from Pacífico to Atocha RENFE station.

The journey takes between 45 and 60 minutes. Terminal 4 is also connected to Puerta de Atocha by train with lines C-1 or C-10. Trains run every 15 minutes (from 5:46 a.m. to 0:01 a.m.) and the trip takes 30 minutes. The train is free for AVE ticket holders. You can also take the express bus line 203 (from T1, T2 and T4 to Atocha, every 4 to 20 min, journey time up to 40 min).

Once at Madrid-Puerta de Atocha station, take a High Speed Train to Lleida-Pirineus Station (see “by train” section for more details).

By train

Lleida Pirineus Train Station - Pl. Ramon Berenguer IV. s/n - 25006 Lleida
The high-speed train is the fastest way to reach Lleida from Barcelona and Madrid. A 10% discount is available for attendees of the 25th SIDLL International Conference who choose to travel to Lleida by train (request the voucher before purchasing your ticket by sending an email to fundacio@udl.cat). Travel time is approximately 1h from Barcelona and 2h15 from Madrid. Be sure to check the schedule before purchasing your ticket. By bus

Lleida Bus Station – carrer Saracibar, 2 – 25002 Lleida
There is a direct bus connection from Barcelona-El Prat airport to Lleida with ALSA. The same bus can be taken from Barcelona-Estació del Norte. However, bear in mind that the journey from the airport takes about 3 hours. Timetables can be consulted online and online purchase can be made at ALSA .

By car

Lleida is well connected by car with Barcelona and Madrid. From Barcelona airport, the AP-7 freeway (free freeway) which connects with the AP-2 freeway (free freeway) or the A-2 freeway (free freeway) will take you to Lleida, while the A-2 freeway (free freeway) will take you to Lleida from Madrid.
Other important national roads crossing Catalonia pass through Lleida. You may consider renting a car at any airport.
